About National Institute of Technology Puducherry (NITPY)

The National Institute of Technology Puducherry (NIT Puducherry or NITPY) is an autonomous public technical and deemed university situated in Karaikal, a city within the Union Territory of Puducherry. Established in 2010, NIT Puducherry is one of the 31 National Institutes of Technology in India. The institute has been recognized as an Institute of National Importance by the Government of India under the National Institutes of Technology, Science Education and Research Act, 2007.
In the 2025 NIRF rankings, NIT Puducherry holds the 99th position. The institute offers a variety of undergraduate (UG), postgraduate (PG), and doctoral (Ph.D.) programs in the following disciplines, Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Education, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Humanities & Social Sciences, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering and Physics. Recently, the institute has expanded its offerings to include B.Sc., B.Ed. and M.Sc. programs and has implemented the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in its undergraduate curriculum.
The NIT Puducherry campus spans approximately 258 acres (1.04 km²) of lush green land, located near the Nandalar River and just 500 meters from the Bay of Bengal. The institute is situated about 135 kilometers from Puducherry, 162 kilometers from Tiruchirappalli, and 300 kilometers from Chennai.
